The most common service providers in Australia and New Zealand are now offering broadband internet for $60 a month or $100 a year, but the cost of internet can be an added headache.
The new deals come as the Government prepares to announce more details about its NBN, which is supposed to connect more people to the internet.
Here are the basics about how internet is being provided in Australia.
Who is paying?
The main provider is Optus.
The majority of Australians use Optus’ copper-based service, but there are small companies, such as mobile phone operator Telstra, who also offer the service.
Optus charges $30 a month for the service in most states and territories.
What’s in it for me?
To sign up, you need to have a new phone or internet account with Optus or an Australian company that offers it.
Once you have a mobile phone or account, you can start using the internet as long as you pay the $60 per month.
You can also get a $20 credit on your bill each month, which you can use to pay for the internet you use.
What does it cost to get online?
There are different services for different households.
If you are a business, you are eligible to get a fixed line connection at $30, $40 or $50 a month.
The other major providers are AT&T and Telstra.
You need to pay $60 to get the best internet speeds.
If your internet is provided by a local network, you will pay about $60.
The difference between the fixed line and mobile internet is the “broadband allowance”, which is how much you get for every megabit of data.
You pay for this allowance by downloading an amount of data, called “speed”, that is used to download a piece of content.
You get a higher allowance for your data use if you are on the phone or computer.
When can I get internet?
When you get a phone or a computer, the first thing you need is a SIM card.
If that doesn’t work, you may need to buy a new device, such a tablet or laptop.
To use your internet, you have to have the right hardware connected to the modem or router, and that needs to be on the same network as your mobile network.
You will need to set up an internet account before you can download content, but once you have that set up, the only restrictions on how much content you can access are the speed and quality of the internet connection.
How much can I use?
The maximum amount of internet you can upload and download a month is about 100MB, and the maximum amount you can see on the internet is about 1MB.
But that can be increased to a maximum of about 2MB per month, depending on the service you have.
You cannot get more than 1GB of data a month, and you cannot use more than 10GB of internet a month from a single account.
If, for example, you want to get more internet, your monthly plan might start at 100MB and go up to 1TB.
What happens if my connection is slow?
If your connection is poor, you might find yourself getting less than what you paid for.
The NBN is supposed have a “speed threshold”, which you cannot exceed unless you pay more for it.
If the NBN doesn’t provide enough speed, the service may not be good enough for you.
If it is bad, you could be charged more for using the NBN than you paid.
If this happens, you must return the internet provider the money you paid or ask your provider to refund your money.
How long does it take for the NBN to be upgraded?
The NBN has been in operation for 10 years.
The average NBN connection speed is around 300Mbps.
The final rollout will be around 2G speeds, which are slower than 1G speeds.
What can I do if I have trouble using the service?
You can contact your provider and request an upgrade.
If they can’t help, you should try contacting the ISP you used to buy your internet and request a new one.
You may also contact the NBN if you’re unhappy with the service and ask them to take it off.
If a problem arises, you don’t have to pay a penalty.
